Mixed signals do not give you a reliable answer about someone's private motives. You can still compare affectionate words with plans, availability, and follow-through. Care may be real while the relationship remains uncertain or inconsistent.

Using evidence of affection to answer a different question: whether the relationship is actually being chosen and sustained.

Make two columns labeled FEELING SIGNALS and CHOICE SIGNALS. Put every recent example in one column, then make the next decision from the choice column.

Example: frequent affectionate messages can be real. If plans repeatedly disappear and commitment remains undefined, the affection does not erase the behavioral pattern.
Do mixed signals prove how someone feels?
No. Warm messages, distance, and missed plans are observations; the motive behind them may remain unknown. Record what happened without treating either your most hopeful explanation or your worst fear as a fact.
What can I do when words and actions do not match?
Write down the promise and what happened afterward as separate facts. Look for repetition over time, decide what consistency you need, and choose a boundary you can keep without requiring the other person to change.

- Whether the relationship has a clear place in their choices
- Whether commitment exists in behavior
UNKNOWN
- How deeply they feel
- Whether they think about you when they are absent
- What they might choose someday
PATTERN
Feelings may exist while behavior still leaves you unchosen, uncertain, or repeatedly deprioritized.
BOUNDARY
Do not require proof that love is absent before deciding that the current behavior is not enough for you.
