Rebuilding & Self-Respect
Making Peace With the Version of You Who Needed More Evidence
Making peace with yourself includes forgiving the version of you who needed more evidence.
KNOWN
- You made the decision you made with the information and capacity you had then
- Additional evidence became available over time
- You can make a different decision now without rewriting the past
UNKNOWN
- Whether you would truly have acted differently if someone had warned you sooner
- Whether self-criticism would have protected you from the experience
PATTERN
People often stay while evidence is still accumulating. Needing more evidence is not the same as being incapable of learning from it.
BOUNDARY
Do not turn hindsight into a permanent punishment of your earlier self.
NEXT ACTION
Name one thing you know now that you did not fully know then. Use it to make the next decision differently instead of using it to attack the person you were.
